Groundhog Day

Oh, and happy Groundhog Day! I looked for a good Groundhog Day-related comic, but couldn’t find any. Comic strip writers totally dropped the ball on this one! Anyway, apparently the all-knowing Phil says spring will come early this year. I wonder if having to dig his way out from under two feet of snow to give the announcement gave him any second thoughts?

Doesn’t look like there are any pictures up yet from this year, but here’s one from February 2, 2008. It accompanied this AP article about PETA wanting to replace Phil with an animatronic groundhog. Sigh. The article says Phil is kept in a “climate-controlled environment,” so I guess he didn’t have to dig out from under the snow after all. Lucky him. (Though he does have to be inspected annually by the US Department of Agriculture…)

that is a fantastic banner shot. waterlogged branches against a flat february sky.

    keep shooting, and keep writing!

Not a single-cell comic, but Barney & Clyde had a whole week of groundhog strips. (That’s a new strip by Gene Weingarten and his son. I like it, but I don’t know how widely it’s circulated.)
